Marketplace Photo Size Requirements: Amazon, eBay, Etsy & Shopify

Published: July 28, 2026 | Reading time: 5 minutes

Every marketplace has its own pixel-dimension rules for product photos, and they don't match each other. Upload the wrong size and you get a rejected listing, a blurry zoom, or a photo that gets silently downgraded in search. Here are the real numbers for each platform, and how to hit all of them from one edit pass instead of four.

The Numbers, Platform by Platform

Marketplace Minimum Recommended
Amazon 500px on longest side 1,000px+ on longest side (enables zoom)
eBay 500px on longest side 1,600px on longest side for best zoom quality
Etsy Not strictly enforced ~2,000px on shortest side
Shopify No hard minimum 2048 × 2048px for square product photos (max 4472 × 4472px, 20MB)

Notice the pattern: every platform's recommended size is roughly double its stated minimum. That's not a coincidence — it's because "minimum" just avoids a rejection, while the larger size is what actually lets the platform's pinch-zoom or hover-zoom feature work without pixelating. Amazon states this directly: images at or near the 500px floor "may appear pixelated when a customer zooms in," and the platform explicitly recommends 1,000px+ to support zoom.

Why One Export Size Doesn't Work

If you sell the same product on Amazon, eBay, and Etsy — common for resellers running multi-channel listings — a single 1200px export satisfies Amazon and eBay's zoom recommendations but falls short of Etsy's ~2,000px shortest-side guidance, and undershoots Shopify's 2048px recommendation. Export at Shopify's 2048px instead, and now every other platform is oversized, which means unnecessarily large file sizes and slower page loads on marketplaces that don't need the extra resolution.

Practical approach: Shoot or edit your master image at the highest resolution you'll need (2048px+ works for all four platforms above), then batch-export platform-specific copies at each target size rather than manually resizing per-listing.

Batch-Resizing Your Catalog for Multiple Marketplaces

For a reseller with 200 SKUs listed across 3 marketplaces, that's potentially 600 individual resize operations if done by hand. A batch profile collapses this to one pass per marketplace:

  1. Master export: Edit and export your full catalog once at 2048×2048px (covers Shopify's recommendation and exceeds everyone else's).
  2. Amazon/eBay pass: Batch-resize the master set down to 1600px on the longest side, preserving aspect ratio.
  3. Etsy pass: Batch-resize to 2000px on the shortest side.
  4. Verify: Spot-check 5-10 images per output folder to confirm no images fell below each platform's stated minimum before bulk uploading.

This turns a multi-day manual resizing chore into three batch runs, with every image in every folder meeting its target platform's minimum by construction rather than by manual checking.
