Learn Kanji in 30 Days: The Accelerated Method

Most Kanji learners waste 6 months memorizing characters they'll rarely use. This guide gives you the 30-day roadmap to learn practical Kanji efficiently.

Why 30 Days? Why This Method Works

Spaced repetition + daily immersion + JLPT focus = faster learning. This method prioritizes characters you'll actually encounter in reading and conversation.

The spacing part isn't a productivity trend—it's over a century of memory research. Psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus first charted the "forgetting curve" in 1885, showing that memory decays fastest right after learning and then levels off. Later, Pashler, Rohrer, Cepeda, and Carpenter (2007, Psychonomic Bulletin & Review, 14(2), 187–193) found that the optimal time to review something is roughly 10–20% of the way toward when you'll actually need it—which is exactly why reviewing Day 1's Kanji on Day 3, not Day 1 again, sticks better.

The Real Accelerator: Immersion

After Day 14, start reading simple Japanese materials:

Seeing characters in context locks them into long-term memory faster than flashcards alone.
