Kanji Mnemonics FAQ

RTK (Remembering the Kanji) assigns each character a unique English keyword and a mnemonic story using visual primitives. This method is used by tens of thousands of Japanese learners—it makes it possible to learn hundreds of kanji in weeks, not years.

Kanji Mnemonics includes 2,000+ kanji organized by JLPT level (N5 through N1). Start with N5 fundamentals and progress through all levels as you advance. That's more kanji than most learners need.

Complete coverage: JLPT N5 (beginner) → N4 → N3 → N2 → N1 (advanced). Each level is fully organized with RTK mnemonics and flashcard quizzes. Progress at your own pace.

Two quiz modes: (1) Keyword → Kanji: See the English keyword and recall the character. (2) Kanji → Keyword: See the character and recall its keyword. Track correct/incorrect to focus on weak areas.

Yes! Kanji Mnemonics tracks exactly where you are in each JLPT level. See how many kanji you've mastered, which ones need review, and your overall completion percentage per level.

No! Kanji Mnemonics is completely offline. Study anywhere, anytime—on your commute, before bed, or during breaks—without needing an internet connection.

Perfect! Many learners use the RTK method to prep for JLPT exams at all levels. The structured progression from N5→N1 mirrors official JLPT difficulty, so you study what's actually on the exam.

Start with N5! This is the beginner level designed for complete newcomers. Kanji Mnemonics teaches both the RTK method and the picture-book stories you need. No prior Japanese required.

Unlike generic flashcard apps where you forget everything later, Kanji Mnemonics uses the proven RTK method with picture-book mnemonics and memorable stories. This builds lasting retention instead of memorization that fades.

It depends on your pace! Many learners complete 50-100 kanji per month with consistent daily study. With the RTK method's efficiency, thousands of learners report learning hundreds in weeks instead of years.
