Study with spoken time and leave your phone face down

· Avinash Kumar

Voice Clock runs on iPhone and Apple Watch. The app is available in English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Chinese and Arabic.

You put your phone face down to stop checking it. Twenty minutes later you want to know how long you’ve been at it, flip the phone, and there’s a message. Ten minutes gone.

Hearing the time removes the reason to pick the phone up.

Helpful clock app!

Really helpful app for keeping track of time without constantly checking your phone. The voice reminders are clear, easy to customize, and great for staying focused while working or studying. Simple, useful, and works smoothly.

A simple study setup

  • Mode: Interval, so the count starts when you press Start.
  • Interval: 25 minutes if you like Pomodoro blocks, 15 if you tend to drift.
  • Earphones in a library. On your own, the speaker is fine.

Press Start, put the phone down, and work until you hear the time. At 25 minutes take five. Start again.

Clock time for exam practice

For a timed practice paper, use Clock Aligned every 10 or 15 minutes. You’ll hear real times (14:10, 14:20) and can compare them with the finishing time of the paper, which is how it’ll feel in the exam room where you can see a wall clock but not your phone.

Don’t let it become wallpaper

If you’ve been using the same interval for weeks and stopped noticing it, change it. A chime before the voice also helps.

なかなか良いです。

音声で時間を教えてくれるので、カウントダウン時報として良いと思いました。

Translation: It tells you the time by voice, so I thought it works well as a countdown time signal.

Questions people ask

Can I use it for Pomodoro?
Yes. Use Interval mode with a 25-minute interval to hear when a block ends, then take your break. It speaks the elapsed time rather than ringing an alarm.
Will it disturb other people in a library?
Use earphones. Announcements play through the media audio, so they follow your earphones.
