A calculator with a tape: review every entry, fix one, export the lot

· Avinash Kumar

Voice Calculator runs on iPhone. The app is available in English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese.

Old adding machines printed every number on a paper roll. Accountants kept those rolls, because they showed how a total was reached. A phone calculator shows only the last number.

Voice Calculator keeps the roll.

The tape

Every number and operation you say goes on its own line. You can scroll back through the whole calculation at any time.

Fixing an entry

Tap a line, correct it, and the total recalculates. The rest of the tape stays as it was. With a normal calculator, a mistake in the twelfth number means typing all twelve again.

Exporting

  • CSV opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets, one entry per row.
  • Plain text is handy for pasting into an email or a note.

Useful for expense claims, for sending a stock count to a colleague, or just keeping a record of what you added.

A tape as a habit

  • Before you send a total to anyone, scroll the tape once.
  • Name the export after what it was (“receipts October”) so you can find it later.

Related: add up receipts by voice.
