How do you remove location from photos on iPhone?
· Avinash Kumar
Batchly runs on iPhone and iPad. The app interface is in English.
For a single share, tap Share, then Options at the top of the share sheet, and turn off Location. To strip it from a photo in your library, open the photo, open its info panel, adjust the location and choose No Location. To stop new photos recording it at all, set the Camera’s Location Services access to Never.
I build Batchly, which comes up below, so weigh my suggestions with that in mind.
Why location matters when you share
When Location Services is on for the Camera, iPhone stores the coordinates where each photo was taken inside the file. Anyone who receives the original file can read them. For a photo of something you are selling, taken at home, that can point to your address. The question shows up again and again on iPhone forums, usually after someone notices a buyer or stranger knew roughly where they live.
Method 1: turn off Location in the share sheet
- Select one or more photos in Photos.
- Tap Share, then Options near the top.
- Turn off Location. The sheet shows “Location Not Included”.
- Share as usual.
This only affects that share, and it only works when you share from the system share sheet. If you upload from inside another app’s own photo picker, that app’s settings apply instead.
Method 2: remove location from the photo in Photos
Open the photo, open the info panel (swipe up or tap the info button), tap to adjust the location, and choose No Location. Apple documents this in its Personal Safety guide. If you need certainty that a file you are sending is clean, Method 1 is the one Apple designs for sharing.
Method 3: stop recording location
Go to Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Camera, and choose Never. Future photos will not carry a location. Photos you already took keep theirs, and you lose location-based search in your own library, which many people find useful.
Where Batchly fits
Batchly resizes, compresses, crops, watermarks and converts many photos at once on the device, without an account, and leaves your originals untouched. It keeps the original metadata, location included, so it is not a location remover. If you prepare listing photos in Batchly, run the export, then send or upload them through the share sheet with Location turned off. Batchly is free for up to 7 photos at a time; Pro removes the limit and adds saved workflows.

Questions people ask
- Do marketplaces and social apps remove photo location for me?
- Many large platforms strip location metadata on upload, but you cannot easily check what each one keeps, and files sent directly by email or as a document in a chat often arrive unchanged. Turning location off before the photo leaves your phone is the safer habit.
- Does Batchly remove location data from photos?
- No. Batchly keeps the original metadata, including location, on the photos it exports. Use the iPhone share sheet Options or the Photos info panel to drop location before you send Batchly's results.
