Can you rotate multiple photos at once on iPhone?
· Avinash Kumar
Batchly runs on iPhone and iPad. The app interface is in English.
Not in the Photos app: rotation happens in each photo’s Edit screen, one picture at a time. To rotate or flip a whole set, use a Shortcuts shortcut or a batch photo app.
One photo in Photos
- Open the photo and tap Edit.
- Tap the crop tool.
- Tap the rotate button (square with an arrow) for 90° turns, or the flip button to mirror.
- Tap Done.
Fine for one or two. Tedious for 40 scanned receipts that all came out sideways.
Many photos with Shortcuts
Shortcuts has a Rotate Image action. A shortcut that takes selected photos, rotates them by 90° and saves copies works, but you have to build it, and it saves new copies without removing the sideways ones.
Many photos with a batch app
In Batchly (I make it):
- Pick all the photos that need the same fix.
- Add Rotate (90°, 180°) or Flip (horizontal or vertical).
- Chain other steps if needed: crop, resize, convert.
- Export.
Batchly writes new files and leaves originals as they were. It’s offline, on the device. Free handles 7 photos per batch, Pro is unlimited.
Why photos come out sideways
The iPhone stores an orientation tag instead of turning the pixels. Some websites and older software ignore that tag, so a photo that looks right on your phone appears sideways elsewhere. Rotating and exporting a new file fixes it everywhere.

Questions people ask
- Can the iPhone Photos app rotate several photos at once?
- Rotation is done in each photo's Edit screen, one at a time. For a batch you need Shortcuts or a batch editing app.
- How do I mirror a selfie on iPhone?
- For new selfies, switch on Mirror Front Camera in Settings > Camera. For existing ones, use Edit > crop tool > flip, or a batch app for many at once.
- Does rotating a photo lose quality?
- Rotating in 90° steps doesn't need to lose quality, though apps that re-save as JPEG add one round of compression.
